</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Coach Leslie Frazier allowed that Peterson "moved around pretty good." Peterson downplayed the injury Thursday, telling reporters that he's "durable" and can "carry the load" at running back. There's not a better fantasy bet than Peterson for Week 8 against the Panthers.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Coach Leslie Frazier said Monday that the Vikings were holding out hope Peterson would be able to practice on Friday, but that's overly optimistic. The fact that Monday's MRI revealed "some ligament damage" is perhaps the most concerning development, regardless of the "Grade 1" characterization. Peterson's recovery timetable is going to depend on swelling and related factors that are unpredictable. Fantasy owners need to pick up Toby Gerhart and brace for a one- to two-game absence for Peterson, at least.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Coach Leslie Frazier sounds resigned to not having his best player this week. He said Peterson will have to practice Friday in order to play Sunday and that looks extremely unlikely right now. Profootballtalk.com has already reported that Peterson will miss "at least" one game. And with the Vikings at 2-8, they certainly won't rush their franchise player back. Toby Gerhart will almost certainly start in a brutal matchup against the Falcons Sunday.

He may get out there and run around a little bit this week, but I have a hard time believing he'll be back in a starting capacity." La Canfora noted that the Vikings hoped Peterson would practice by Friday of last week, but it never materialized. Consider Peterson on the doubtful side of questionable for Week 13.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>Both ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Jason La Canfora are on the record as saying Peterson is doubtful to return this week, and his chances will further dwindle if he misses another practice on Thursday. At this point, his best-case scenario is likely being a game-time decision against the Broncos.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>"(Peterson's) able to do things straight-line pretty good," Frazier. "But the cutting is still a little bit of an issue." Barring a setback, Peterson appears on track to return in Week 14 and only miss two games with his high-ankle sprain. The Vikings will be taking on an Ndamukong Suh-less Lions defense in Week 14.

</TD></TR><TR><TD class=vaLink>PFT's Mike Florio suggests the Vikings might shut down Peterson altogether for the final five games because they're not serious playoff contenders. NFL teams don't normally operate like that, but it's certainly conceivable that the Vikings will take every precaution possible with their $96 million back. Fantasy owners should be prepared to be without A.P. beyond just Week 13.

Peterson will end up missing three games with a high ankle sprain, and should be at or near 100 percent after the extended layoff. Toby Gerhart will resume clear-cut backup duties. Percy Harvin will continue to be featured in Minnesota's passing game with Michael Jenkins on injured reserve.
